people keeping exotic pets. right or wrong?

A sense of disgust overwhelms me as I read the article. I feel that their actions are wrong. Just so as to fulfill their desire, the self-centered people caused the animals’ wrath. If they were more considerate and had thought ahead in the sense that these animals are endangered species and by donating them to the zoo, they can contribute greatly to the society. When the animals are donated, zoologist can get to study them and provide information that is previously unknown. But by hugging onto to them, what they are doing is just displaying their selfishness. I think there should be measures taken to make certain that endangered species does not fall into the hands of ordinary folks, but are brought to the zoo. There, the animals will be well-taken care of and will not be subjected to torture. In addition, the self-seeking people should be heavily punished in order to serve as a reminder to all that if they try to keep endangered pets in their homes, their outcome would be similar to the selfish ones.

Healthy eating program helps slim school kids

I feel that it is very meaningful for the school cafeteria to agree to this activity which prevented the children from gaining too much weight.

The healthy lifestyle as introduced in the community is, in my view one that should be implemented in Singapore as well. In school canteen, even though the school tries to enforce healthy food, there is no way the vendors can totally erase the fried food from their menu as fried food is favored by most children and teenagers, most probably of the crunch present in it. To prevent the loss in customers and loss in income, producers would then continue to sell the fried food discreetly. This would then not promote healthy living. Therefore, what I suggest is that there be an adaptation of the system in which children and teenagers gets to choose the chow they prefer. Then the cafeteria can change their menu as according to the selected fare and ensure that the cooking method used is healthy. In that sense, children and teenagers will be able to lead a better and much healthier way of life.

Thus, the system should be put into effect in Singapore.

Decision to broadcast US gunman video sparks controversy

Due to the US television broadcasting station, CNN, FOX networks broadcasting the gunman’s video, many controversies were sparked.

I must say that it is not wrong for CNN and FOX networks to broadcast the video. What they are trying to do is to give the audience an explanation as to why the gunman chose to kill so many students. Instead, what I feel is that we should look at the motive behind the gunman’s purpose of sending the video.

I believe that the gunman sent the video only after much consideration. As such, the planning of killing the students must have been plotted long ago. When he was discriminated, jeered at and the joke of everyone, he must have been containing his anger, frustration and hatred. Up to the day when he could not stand it any longer, he decided that the best way to take revenge is to murder those who have “done him wrong” and then take his own life. Then he uses the video to proclaim his reasoning for the killing. Through it what he wants to achieve is to tell the whole world the wrong he has been given, the things he should have got and unveils his plot to put to death those who was bad to him. All in all, I feel that his actions are foolish and childish. Does killing people makes him honorable or does it help him get back the injustice he suffered? I doubt so. It only made him infamous and the target of resentment among the victim’s family members. What he has created is but a bad saga, one that was not meant to exist if he had conversed and spoke to people, instead of living in his own world and acting autistic.

Had Cho Seung Hui opened up and interacted with his peers, he would not be seen as a target but as a friend in which one can communicate. By mingling with his classmates, he may be able to express his feelings and thoughts then his emotions would not be trapped, making him uncomfortable, leeching and draining him until he finally gave in and committed an undesirable act. Furthermore, if his classmates had taken the initiative to talk to him and tried to understand him, the tragedy would not have happened. Therefore, what has happened today is but an incorrect move and one that everyone failed to see as a consequence.

Introduction

Well, to start off this blog. I’ll begin with a self-introduction. I’m yan ru and I was from Clementi Town Secondary School.

My previous Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) was Band. Till now, it’s still Band. Friends have called me silly for wasting my time by taking up the CCA once again. It’s a proven fact that Band is very time-consuming as there are at least 3 practices per week, but that’s the fun of it, isn’t it so? If there wasn’t any hard work, would there be success? I doubt so. When I first came to Anderson Junior College, there was a wide variety of CCAs for me to choose from, but as I stepped into the hall to listen to the pieces that the Band was going to perform, I was rooted to the ground. As the music begins, a feeling of what I perceived as honor and glory overwhelm me and it made me realize that Band is where I truly feel a sense of belonging and it’s where I should go. Regardless of the time spent and the days where I have to starve (Band practices in AJ ends very late and by the time I reached home, it’s time for bed), I still love each and every single practice. It holds a special and meaningful purpose for me as I’m playing the instrument I love-flute as well as interacting with my section members. At the same time, I’m improving my skills bit by bit. Hence, joining the Band is a torture? Nah, it’s blissful. =)

If I could, I hope to obtain a MOE scholarship in order to pave the way for my career as a teacher. In the near future, my ambition is to become a history and mathematics teacher, though I don’t recall the existence of this combination. If things work out, I would prefer to be teaching in a junior college rather than in a secondary school. Perhaps it is the level of difficulty and maturity that the JC students have that interests me more than the former. Thus, this is my reason for choosing this.
